As one of my marketing heroes, Seth Godin, once wrote; “Feeling like a failure has little correlation with actually failing. There are people who have failed more times than you and I can count, who are happily continuing in their work.”
Enter Michael Jordan. And while most of us wouldn’t put Michael Jordan in the same sentence as failure, Nike did nearly a decade ago in what could be one of the best commercials ever produced, not to mention one of the most impactful examples of how repeated failure can lead to unimaginable success.
For anyone that needs a jolt of inspiration and a reminder that failure is an important part of the process of success, take a few minutes minute to watch both. And Just Do It. Go fail some more.
“I’ve missed more than 9k shots in my career,
I’ve lost almost 300 games,
26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot…and missed,
I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life.
And that is why I succeed .”
“Maybe it’s my fault that you didn’t see that failure gave me strength, that my pain is motivation.
Maybe I lead you to believe that basketball was a God-given gift and not something I worked for. Every single day of my life.
Maybe I destroyed the game. Or maybe, you’re just making excuses.”
